SEMO baseball unveiled their brand new “St. Louis Browns” alternate throwback jersey on April 30 against the Evansville Aces.

The jersey was a nod to the former Major League Baseball team who held their spring training at Capaha Field in 1943 and 1944. The tribute comes on the 80th anniversary of the club winning the American League pennant, setting up a World Series matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals, known as the “streetcar series”.

SEMO head coach Andy Sawyers says credit for the uniforms goes to Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs, Nate Severino.

“I didn't know that this was the anniversary of the St. Louis Browns going to Capaha. So Nate's the one who had the idea, he's gonna design the jerseys, he ordered, he did all of it,” Sawyers said. “So all of the credit needs to go to Nate Severino for his hard work and for his vision for that.”

Senior pitcher Kyle Miller was excited by the opportunity to wear the jerseys and pay homage to former major league team. Miller is a native of Eureka, Mo, which is 30 minutes outside of St. Louis.

“I'm super excited. It's one thing you hear a lot about in St. Louis, a lot of history with the Browns and the Cardinals,” Miller said. “It's super cool to be able to wear that jersey and actually on a field that they used to play on.”
