Six-time Grammy Award winner and multi-platinum selling Christian hip-hop artist TobyMac will perform on Dec. 13 at the Show Me Center.

TobyMac and his Hits Deep Tour, which was expanded from 10 shows to 20, kicks off on Nov. 7 along with a lineup of some of the biggest Christian music artists including Brandon Heath, Mandisa (Lynn Hundley), Jamie Grace, Colton Dixon, Chris August and Capital Kings.

Mandisa and Colton Dixon were also both finalists on American Idol.

TobyMac has five No. 1 singles on Billboard's Christian songs chart including "Gone," "Made to Love" and "Lose My Soul." His most recent album "Eye On It" sold 69,000 copies the first week and debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at No. 1, which is a first for a Christian album since 1997. The Billboard Top 200 ranks top-selling albums across all genres. TobyMac is also one of the only four artists to ever debut on the Billboard Top 200 with a Christian music album.

The last performance TobyMac had at the Show Me Center was his "Make A Difference Tour" in 2010.

"We've had success in the past with Christian-rock based artists, so to me inviting him back was a no brainer," Show me Center marketing director Joshua Hanlon said.

Hanlon said that the booking and scheduling of Show Me Center events is collectively decided by the Show Me Center.

"It's going to hit home with some students and other students not so much," Hanlon said. "His music is something you would hear on a top 40 hit radio."

Southeast students and TobyMac fans Chelsea Williams and Lindsey Leathers are excited to see the Christian hip-hop star.

"I'm pumped to see TobyMac in December," Williams said. "He's such a talented artist and helps so many worship and bring glory to the incredible God who created us all. I encourage everyone to check their planners now because I'm sure we won't be disappointed with the fun that he will bring."

Leathers is equally excited about the message TobyMac sends to his audience.

"I like how his music is gospel centered and upbeat," Leathers said. "I would love to go to the concert."

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale and range from $20-$36 depending on seat selection. Students with their Southeast ID can get $10 off their ticket at any price level. Only one ticket is allowed per student to receive a discount.

Anyone can purchase tickets in person at the Show Me Center box office, by phone at 573-651-5000 or at showmecenter.biz.
