Suspected Chinese surveillance balloon appears over Cape Girardeau (2/3/23)Emma Kratky ~ Editor-in-ChiefAt approximately 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 3 an object appeared in the sky above Cape Girardeau. According to the United States Department of Defense, the object is a Chinese surveillance balloon, and was first seen traveling over Montana. In a Department of Defense briefing transcript, Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters that the balloon has the ability to move purposefully.
