The Collegiate Farmers Bureau held the third annual Brittney Seabaugh Memorial Trivia Night on Wednesday, March 12. It took place in the Tribute Room on the second floor of the University Center.

Zach Drilingas, president of the Collegiate Farmers Bureau, was in charge of the trivia. He's also trying to bring awareness to the CFB.

"We focus on legislative issues surrounding the agriculture industry and we focus on making sure the community knows about agriculture awareness and where their food comes from," Drilingas said.

The trivia is held in honor of former Southeast student Brittney Seabaugh. She died on Nov. 7, 2011 in her home of a seizure. A 2008 graduate of Jackson high school, she was junior at Southeast majoring in animal science and pre-veterinary medicine. Seabaugh's family is invited to attend the trivia event every year.

Julie Weathers is an adviser for the Collegiate Farmers Bureau and was Seabaugh's adviser. She, along with the farm bureau officers, had the idea of hosting the trivia.

"Brittany was one of our students that was actually involved in every single club in the agriculture department, and so what we wanted to do was put something together that we could generate some money in her name and do special projects around the department in her honor," Weathers said.

Seabaugh had the potential to becoming an CFB officer.

"She was one of our really active members and was probably going to be an officer the next year and she had done a lot, so they really wanted to do something special for her," Weathers said.

Seven teams, totaling about 50 people, attended the trivia this year. This year's winner was the Horticulture Club. The Horticulture Club has actually won three years in a row now. The prize for winning this competition is pure bragging rights.

The money that the trivia event makes goes to the Brittney Seabaugh Memorial Foundation. The scholarship is used for various purposes. The past two years, the money was used to build fire pits at local parks in her name. A plaque was placed in front of the fire pits saying that they were dedicated in the memory of Seabaugh. It's not clear what the money will be going toward this year, but Weathers believes she has an idea.

"I think we are going to put up benches around the fire pit," she said.
