"Grease is the word that you heard," and people have heard it for decades. In two weeks, Southeast Missouri State University students will perform the Tony Award-winning musical "Grease."

The cast of "Grease" gave a preview performance at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 in Sadie's Place in Kent Library as part of the Athenaeum series. Snacks were provided, and many guests of students and faculty members enjoyed the event.

After being introduced, the cast members sang and danced through their featured songs with a piano accompaniment.

"Sandy" was performed by the show's two lead characters, Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski.

Then, the entire cast joined together to sing "Grease."

Up next was "Freddy, My Love," as performed by Marty Maraschino with chorus vocals provided by the Pink Ladies and the remainder of the female cast.

Next, Roger and Jan lit up the stage with "Mooning."

As a finale, the complete cast concluded the fabulous performance by performing "Summer Nights."

The show will run from Sept. 26 to Sept. 30 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus. "Grease" is directed by Dr. Kenneth Stilson.

The cast is very excited to begin performing the musical, said sophomore Michael Burrell, who will portray Danny Zuko.

"The show is going to be great," Burrell said.

Burrell, who has performed in other productions at Southeast, including "Into the Woods," is glad to be the lead.

"[Grease] is one of my favorites," Burrell said. "I am having fun making Danny my own, but paying tribute to John Travolta and Barry Bostwick."
