While Southeast Missouri State University Greeks accomplish impressive amounts of service on their own, they decided to try something different this year. For the first time at Southeast Missouri State University, all social sororities and fraternities along with other on-campus organizations came together for one fundraiser by conducting the Southeast Fair. The fair took place on Saturday at Parker Field and was open to all students.

All the proceeds from admission went to the Circle of Sisterhood Foundation, which helps support women in oppression overseas, helps build schools in Africa and sends individuals to trade schools so they can further their education.

Fair Southeast was put on by National Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council in hopes of not only raising funds for the organization, but also to establish that fraternities' and sororities' main focus is service. They are striving to demonstrate that first hand by coming together and participating in more service events.

"It will be good for the freshmen to see some of the things that sororities and fraternities do together, and instead of just promoting ourselves, we're promoting the Greek community as a whole," Southeast senior and National Panhellenic Council member Ashley Bingham said.

Each organization was encouraged to pair up with other participating organizations to host booths typically seen at a field day or carnival. The event consisted of traditional carnival games along with a music booth, inflatable games, food and other activities for guests to enjoy.

"This was a fun idea for people to come out and see the Greek life in action without putting a label on everyone," Southeast sophomore Kelsey Orf said. "It makes guests feel more comfortable and not pressured to join one organization or the other. We're just here to serve and have fun."
