Southeast Missouri State University's Japanese Student Association will showcase the Japanese culture to the community by hosting its Samurai Night from 4:30 - 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 at the Student Recreation Center-North.

The night will consist of many activities for all ages. It will start with an opening ceremony. There will be six booths for children where they can win prizes by playing games. There will also be six different songs performed, eight dances, and 15 minutes of martial arts displays performed on the main stage.

The event will also have free Japanese cuisine like kara-age, which is Japanese crispy fried chicken, yukisaki, which is Japanese teriyaki beef, sweet bean snacks and other typical dishes. There will also be some music performed during the food serving.

The event will also have a competition consisting of dances, singing, and several other events between two teams. The red team will be made up of women and the white team will be made up of men. The idea for the red and white competition came from a Japanese show Kōhaku, which has some of Japan's most famous musicians compete against each other.

The Japanese Student Association held a similar event last year.

"This year will be way better than last year," JSA vice president Ryonuske Ota said. "We spent so much time on this event. It will be fun."

The event is open to everyone and organization members highly encourage students to attend.
