Southeast Missouri State University's Student Government Association has accomplished a great deal in the past few years and with it's Sept. 23 meeting SGA brought yet another improvement to the Southeast campus.

At the meeting SGA used it's "carry forward" account, which is an account created from the excess money left over from the main SGA budget to help guarantee up to $10,000 towards tables, benches and umbrellas for the outside area of the on-campus Subway located in Scully.

"Last semester we approved $20,000 to clear away rocks and debris, to re-pour concrete and to fix the fence [right outside of Subway]," SGA president Benny Dorris said. "Our idea last semester was to create a clean slate and then come back this year and approve funding for tables and benches to make that a nice outdoor eating area."

The process of organizing this venture took a lot of discussion between both Facility's Management and SGA. The project was originally estimated to cost anywhere between $30-35,000 [including both construction and outdoor furniture] according to Dorris.

"Right now, based off of what we've done we're right on track."

With projects such as these an estimated completion date is just that, an estimate, but Dorris is confident that the construction aspect will be completed sooner rather than later.

"The projected completion date for the initial phase that we started last year should be complete after we [students] return from fall break," Dorris said. "But the furniture can take up to 12 weeks."

For students like junior Amanda Tenholder this is an exciting change to Subway.

"I think this is a good thing, there aren't many places around campus where you can actually eat outside," Tenholder said. "There's never really seating inside because it's so busy."

SGA meetings are held every Monday at 8 p.m. in the UC Ballroom and are open to the public.
