In upcoming months, Student Activities Council will expand from just organizing events for students as it has in the past. This semester the organization is providing entertainment during a men's basketball halftime game as well as forming a subset group known as the "SAC Street Team."

SAC partnered with the athletic department to bring The Bucket Boys to the Show Me Center for a halftime show on Thursday. The Bucket Boys are a musical duo who use unexpected instruments to provide entertainment for their audiences. Students can get into this basketball game for free with the use of a valid Southeast ID or tickets can be purchased at their usual cost.

The SAC Street Team is a new group formed by social media director Trevor Mulholland.

Mulholland said he thought the team would be a good addition to SAC after he attended the Mid-America National Association for Campus Activities Conference last semester. He said that the team would be a great way to increase event involvement as well as create more interaction between the general members.

"The main objectives of Street Team are to promote both upcoming SAC events and Student Activities Council as a whole," Mulholland said. "Tasks that the Street Team are responsible for include writing blog posts, chalking, and most importantly, creative publicity."

Mulholland said that SAC members plan to continue with their theme of "Where Imagination Becomes Reality" and that marketing both their organization and events should be just as fun and creative as the events and organization itself.

In order to become a member of the SAC Street Team a student must be an active member and be acquainted with the organization and the way it operates. SAC meets at 7 p.m. every Tuesday in the University Center Redhawks Room.

Other events SAC has planned include the Spring Back with SAC event from 5 - 9 p.m. on Jan. 31 in the Student Recreation Center-North. This event will be a mixture of fun and student involvement on campus. Students are encouraged to enjoy inflatables and a photo booth as well as stay for the involvement fair, which will occur from 6 - 8 p.m.

Other events planned are a late night movie, a reptile show during Sibs and Kids Weekend and the first Laughter at :15 After event for the spring semester.

Sibs and Kids Weekend occurs from Jan. 31 -- Feb. 1. The first event for the weekend is the late night movie that will be shown at 9 p.m. on Jan. 31. The film Monsters University will be shown in Rose Theatre and is free to students with a valid Southeast ID as well as their siblings or their "littles" from the program Big Brothers Big Sisters.

SAC will also host the show Snakes Alive! at 10 a.m. on Feb. 1 in the University Center. Snakes Alive! is a national touring program that provides people the opportunity to see more than 20 reptiles that students will have the opportunity to hold and possibly interact with.

At 8:15 p.m. on Feb. 6 SAC is hosting comedian Alexandra McHale in the University Center Ballroom. This event is also free to students, faculty and staff with a valid Southeast ID.

McHale has attended many NACA conferences in the past and will also be performing at the National NACA conference in Boston, Mass., Feb. 16 - 19. Three Southeast students have been chosen by NACA to assist the organization at this conference.

Mulholland, Laura Kaimann and Gene Pate will be working as interns or part of the production crew during this time.

Kaimann is a sophomore who has been working with SAC since the fall. College students have the opportunity to watch entertainment acts ranging from comedians, to hypnotists, to magicians at the conference in order to decide if the acts would be something students at their school would enjoy.

Kaimann said she is excited to attend the conference to give her more experience with SAC. She intends to run for a position on the executive board next year.

"I had a lot of fun at NACA and it is a resume builder but also it is a lot of fun, and since we're not sending a delegation to nationals being a volunteer is my only opportunity to go," Kaimann said. "Also I just wanted to get more involved and possibly become a member of NACA either junior or senior year, and volunteering is a good way to start."

Kaimann said that there are so many options to bring acts to Southeast from the NACA conference that SAC's list of entertainers continues into next fall as well.

For more information on SAC, attend Tuesday meetings beginning Jan. 21, like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter @semosac or download the app SEMOSAC.
