Head football coach Tony Samuel announced Tuesday morning that he is in continuing with Southeast Missouri State for another five years.

According to semoball.com, Samuel new contract has a base salary just over $125,000 per year, which also includes a potential to earn more based achieving various team and individual goals. He will also receive 5 percent of the net revenue of all games against FBS opponents, an annuity and revenue from camps and personal endorsements, and will receive $10,000 per year for television and radio appearances.

Samuel's five-year contract will run through 2016.

"We are thrilled that he signed," said Souheast Athletic Director John Shafer. "Now we look forward to the future of Redhawks football."

Not only is Shafer thrilled to have Samuel back but so is Southeast President Kenneth W. Dobbins.

"Five years ago we hired the right coach," Dobbins said. "We are pleased with his style and success and look forward to many more years with him as head coach."

Samuel's contract ended on Monday leaving him a free agent for a day. Recruiting obligations was the reason the contract process took longer than expected. Southeast wanted to make sure the right contract was in place.

"Now that we have signed, we are going to keep doing what we're doing," Samuel said. We have a lot of work to do to get ready for next season."

Many players are looking forward to continuing their play under Coach Samuel's rule.

"I like him a lot and I'm happy he's coming back," said sophomore safety Tylor Brock. "I think he can help us win a lot of games."

Sophomore tight end Art Mueller says the team will work hard for Samuel and the rest of the coaching staff.

"I believe that he gives this team a lot of courage," Mueller said.

Samuel has a 56-92 overall record as a head coach and a 22-35 record through his five seasons at Southeast.
