Student Government Association had their meeting and discussed the new scooter parking on Southeast Missouri State University campus on Monday.

Patrick Vining, SGA president, spoke about the new parking implementations. What the senate decided was that because it had taken effect immediately without any input from students, they are planning meetings to discuss the new rules and regulations with those on charge. SGA did advise for students who are planning protests not to make rash decisions.

"Stupid [decisions] won't help anything," Vining said.

Parking is already an issue on campus and one of the biggest complaints from students. With increasing enrollment each year, and decreasing parking spaces because of construction and bike racks, the new scooter parking is just an addition to the parking complaints already being received.

SGA also discussed with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee the possibility of the senate helping sponsor a helmet drive to help spread scooter safety on campus. Some of their ideas were to help sponsor the recently discounted helmets at a store near campus and give helmets away as prizes at events. SGA was against enforcing a law requiring anyone who is riding a scooter to wear a helmet, but they want to find ways to strongly encourage people to start wearing them.

The senate took a vote on funding requests, allocating money to the Arrow and the Southeast Alumni Association. Then they voted on committee appointments for a few selected students. SGA will have their next meeting on Oct. 1, where they will continue to talk about the new scooter rules.
