With ten games left in the season the Southeast Missouri State softball team will look to keep their three game winning streak going as they take on Middle Tennessee State on Thursday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Morehead State on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m., and Sunday at noon.

Southeast (14-10 OVC and 22-24 overall) sits in 5th place in the OVC, and with six more conference games until the end of the season. The Redhawks have an opportunity to climb further up the rankings.

"We can win six out of the six conference games coming up," said head coach Lana Richmond. "I want us to go out and further our conference standing."

The Redhawks have improved drastically since last year, not only have they exceeded their wins total from last year but they have doubled their conference wins and have the chance to triple it before the end of the season. Depth has been added to the pitching and roster, also hitting has improved greatly producing a competitive offense.

Last Friday, April 22 the Redhawks beat Williams Baptist at home for a double header with a score of 4-1 for the first game and 5-2 in the game one following. Freshman catcher Shelby Kuryllo is responsible for five of the nine runs the Redhawks scored in both games.

"It felt really good to hit the ball good again," said Kuryllo.

Kuryllo also earned three RBIs in the second game along with sophomore pitcher Taylor Cowan who had two.

In the second inning of game two, Cowan added a run to the scoreboard in the second inning with her team-leading eighth homerun of the season.

Heavy rain the past few days means the team has been unable to use their field at the Southeast Softball Complex. Instead they have been practicing indoors at Houck Field House.

The Redhawks are now preparing for the match up this week against conference foe Morehead State, who is sixth in the OVC.

"Thursday is going to be a tune up game for Saturday," said Cowan. "In practice we're doing extra hitting and now we're ready to get back on the field."

The team hasn't clinched a berth for the OVC Tournament yet, but they will if they can maintain their position in the standings as one of the top six in the final regular season standings. The Redhawks are striving to win their upcoming conference games against Morehead to get them that much closer to a spot in the tournament.

"When our hitting is on, it's on," said Kuryllo. "We're going to stay focused as a team and work really hard through the whole game."
