Student Government Association reconvened after summer break on Monday.

Guest speaker Dave Starrett talked to the Executive Board and Senate about the upcoming AQIP, Academic Quality Improvement Program, quality checkup visit in September. Starrett said the checkup is the last piece of evidence used in order to reaffirm the accreditation of Southeast Missouri State University. Starrett said when they come for the checkup they will talk to students about improvements in classes.

"They're not looking for black and white or yes and no answers," Starrett said. This is important because if the University loses their accreditation it would lose all federal funding.

The next topic of the meeting was the recent budget cuts. It was announced that even though Missouri lost funding, the state still had some of the lowest tuition prices.

Also discussed were first-year senator applications and SGA's upcoming special elections.

Dylan Llyod, a senator for the College of Liberal Arts, said he has been encouraging students to apply for these positions and he hoped others would do the same.

One of the last points of the meeting was the Man and Woman of the Year nominations. After much discussion and voting their nominations were SGA vice president Greg Felock and Amanda Graven, a senator for the College of Education.

The next SGA meeting will be on Monday, Sept. 10 at 8 pm in the University Center Ballroom.
