A campus student group will be bringing in an illusionist for a free show called The Maze on Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. in the Bedell Theater at the River Campus.

"The show is completely free for students," Campus Crusade for Christ President Scott Norman said. "We are hoping to get students there and pack the house."

The performance has been traveling the world and leaving people in awe for the past ten years. The Maze team takes over college and high school campuses in all 50 states and beyond. Performance venues rarely hold an open seat. At the University of Texas every seat was taken just six minutes after doors opened. The Maze visited Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and had to turn down nearly 1200 students.

The program has received best events awards by student groups on several campuses and has been viewed by hundreds at each show.

"I am looking forward to seeing all the crazy tricks I've been hearing about," Southeast junior Jocelyn Moylan said.

Head illusionist and cofounder Jim Munroe has had years of experience putting on magic shows around the country. Munroe and former illusionist partner the late Tennyson McCarty are most famously known for staging their deaths at the University of California on a botched bullet catch. Botched bullet catches are when a magician appears to catch a bullet fired directly at them and catches it with their hand or mouth. Munroe has previously been a consultant for famous magicians such as Derren Brown and Criss Angel.

Munroe is a Leukemia survivor and uses his talents to open a new mindset to his audience. His illusions are not only used to amaze but also leave people wondering what truth really is.

The Maze goes beyond the limits of a typical magic show into the realm of a social experiment as it engages the audience's mind on multiple levels.

The day of the performance Munroe will be on the sidewalks of Southeast doing street magic for anyone who is interested.
