The Office of Veterans and Military Services will move their Veteran's Day event to the University Center lobby this year to involve more of the student population. Now it will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in the UC lobby.

"All too often you have some people who don't really think about those in the military or the sacrifices that they make, and it's no fault to students because they just are not exposed to it," Jeremy McBroom, director of the Office of Veterans and Military Services, said. "This should make students stop and recognize the veterans in the military here on campus."

During the event, the Golden Eagles will play patriotic music.

"We may put some spirit songs in there as well to not just engage military personnel but some of the students as well," McBroom said.

The event will consist of information tables with representatives from Veterans Administration, the American Legion, VFW, student services, financial aid, the registrar's office, Career Linkages, the Student Veterans Organization and Veteran Certification. A few other possible organizations might also attend.

"The whole goal behind this is to show veterans and military personnel what services are available here on campus as well as off campus too," McBroom said.

Since McBroom is the new director of Veterans and Military Services, this event will give him the opportunity to introduce himself to the veterans on campus.

"This position was created to support the veteran and military population, and I want them to know that is why I am here," McBroom said. "Its not just about this office, either. There are other organizations, too."

There also will be an informal luncheon provided for the staff, veteran and military students during the event.
