Column: The plight of mid-major basketball in the transfer portal era (3/30/23)Mark Grogan ~ Staff WriterI’ve had time to think about it, and I can think clearly about the situation. A part of me thought Phillip Russell would stay and Southeast Missouri State University men's basketball could build something special, but looking back on the season, on his season, I guess I was being naive. Russell is entering his name in the transfer portal, meaning SEMO will likely lose their best player. Where have I seen this movie before?...

The world awoke January 24 to an announcement stating the television channel, AdultSwim, would no longer be associated with Roiland. Overthinking: Cleaning out the spiders in the sculpture (2/9/23)Lizzy Stock ~ Staff WriterI love spider webs. I think it’s gorgeous and complex and significant how spiders can craft a home from scratch and muscle memory, perfectly designed for them and their lifestyle. My favorite spider web, located in a nook of a decoration on my friends’ porch, had a little cone of silk where the spider lived, and outer netting to catch bugs and such. I think it’s neat how life has the propensity to sustain itself, to find little pockets of refuge to exist and thrive in...

Column: How to be smarter than scammers in SEMO emails (1/31/23)April Styer ~ Audio ProducerHave you gotten one of those sketchy emails claiming this great job offer was available, but in truth, you felt something wasn’t quite right about it? I received one of those emails and was offered $300 to walk what I thought was a student’s dog for one hour three times a week. Who wouldn’t want to jump on an offer like that?! I clicked the link, and yes, since I am of a “certain” age. I should have known better, but I was intrigued...

How forcing myself out of a bubble and taking risks created a brand new person (12/12/22)Jowairia Khalid ~ Senior Staff WriterAs graduation is 10 days away, I sit in front of the mirror and think about my character development throughout college. I am not the same girl I was two and a half years ago in high school. Yes, you read correctly. I finished college in two and a half years, thanks to the 57 credits I received in high school from dual credit and AP classes. While there are moments I wish I had not completed college so quickly, I believe I have made the most of my college career...

Editorial: How do you make college the experience of a lifetime? (12/9/22)Southeast ArrowAlright, you’ve made it. You’re in college, pursuing a degree…but what else are you doing? Are you involved? Making friends? Enjoying college life? A lot of students tend to get lost in the stress of schoolwork and commitments, and miss out on the bigger picture of college: making connections and gaining experience...

Overthinking: How to trick yourself into being happy — or maybe, how to be happy for real (12/9/22)Lizzy Stock ~ Staff WriterFor my last column of the semester, I’d like to pay a special tribute to the name of my column, Overthinking. If there is one thread that runs through every column I’ve ever written, it’s overthinking. I literally cannot stop my brain from constantly thinking, which is both one of my favorite and least favorite things about myself...

Overthinking: A smart SEMO student’s guide to productivity (12/4/22)Lizzy Stock ~ Staff WriterHeyyy, everybody!! Well, it’s officially ~that~ time of the semester. I don’t think I’m alone when I say I feel like I have negative time to finish all of my assignments, projects and studying.
