The Southeast Missouri State University baseball team was one run short of tying a school record while dominating Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne on Sunday.

Southeast routed the Mastodons of the Summit League 26-7 in a seven-inning game at Capaha Field. The Redhaws' offense had 10 extra base hits, including three home runs.

Starting first baseman Andy Lennington picked up four RBIs with a two-run double and single in a first inning that saw the Redhawks score 10 runs.

"We've had a pretty good offense all year," Lennington said. "We're just now putting hits together and getting timely hitting when guys are on base. I mean, we are going to put together runs if we are doing that."

Shortstop Kenton Parmley and left fielder Jason Blum also had a two-run hits in the inning. The Redhawks collected six hits, drew five walks and was aided by an IPFW throwing error.

"You don't score 10 runs in the first inning very often," Southeast coach Mark Hogan said. "They weren't cheap either."

IPFW starting pitcher Daniel Tursell was forced to endure the nightmare inning. It took him 70 pitches and 15 batters to get three outs. He was taken out in the second inning after giving up a two-run home run to second baseman John Logan Zink to make the score 12-0.

Tursell's replacement Steve Danielak hit and walked the first two batters that he faced, and then allowed a 3-run home run to third baseman Trenton Moses that extended the lead to 15-0.

Southeast continued to hit in the third and fourth innings. Lennington put his RBI total at six for the game with another two-run double that put Southeast up 20-1 and capped off a six-run inning.

Parmley added to the run total in the fourth inning with a two-run double. He then reached home on a double by Moses, who advanced to third base on a fielding error. That was followed by the second home run of the season for starting catcher Kody Campbell to put Southeast up 26-1.

"It's always nice to have a day like this," Moses said. "You get the bats rolling a little bit, get some confidence up. It's always a great day [when it's] like this."

Southeast starting pitcher Zack Smith threw four innings and allowed one earned run and two hits, in addition to walking five batters. Dylan Lynn, Bobby Hurst and Cody Spanberger pitched an inning each during the final three innings for the Redhawks.

Parmley tied the school record for runs scored in a game with five.

"We put the ball in play hard today," Hogan said. "We had good offensive production up and down the lineup. It went our way after a not so offensive game yesterday. I was glad to see us bounce back."

Southeast went 2-1 in the series with IPFW and improved its record to 3-4. The team will host NAIA-foe Hannibal-LaGrange starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday for a two-game series. It will then host Illinois State for a four-game series starting at 3 p.m. Friday.
