Southeast Missouri State’s cross country teams competed in the Ohio Valley Conference on Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee.

The women’s cross country ranking is currently 13th in the Midwest Regional Rankings after coming in eighth at Bradley on Oct. 17. Southeast’s women’s cross country team leave OVC hitting their targeted second place, while the men’s team placed 10th.

Training begins in the summer preparing for this fall season

“I’ve got a great bunch of kids, they really know what it takes to get better, they

work hard, they work hard together, they really push and put in a lot of hard work,” Lane said.

The mishaps with the men’s team has been a struggle for everyone but Lane says he’s feeling positive about the rest of the season.

“I think the women’s team has a target on their backs for second place right now. The men’s team had a couple mishaps here at the last of the season, one kid tore a hamstring the other developed mono so we lost two of our top five runners, but we’re hoping to still come out in the top third this Saturday, despite all of that,” Lane said.

Race results are in and Southeast’s women’s cross country team has earned the second spot in regional ranking, runners finishing times and placements in the OVC on Saturday have Megan Parks (17:35) and Kaitlyn Shea (17:43.1) earning first and second team All- OVC after finishing seventh and 13th. Sydney O’Brien (17:43.9) was third on her team and earned 15th in the overall race. Angie Sumner (18:15.5) fourth on her team finished in 28th place and Southeast’s fifth lady redhawk was Danielle Mohrmann (18:22.7) finishing her race in 33rd place.

Men’s race results with James Kosbar (26:37.3) leading his team came in 34th place next is Dan Plunkett (26:51.6) the second redhawk runner finishing his race in 39th place. Marc Maton (27:04.9) third place on his team finished his race in 44th place.

Fourth and fifth runners took 50th and 63rd places were, Curtis Reed (27:20.7) and Jaime Zarate (28:07.1).

Sydney O’Brien finished 29th at Bradley with a time of 21:39 in the 6K run.

“Our biggest rivalry I’d have to say is EIU Eastern Illinois University. They are our biggest conference rival for sure. We are really trying to take, well, second place would be a really good ending to the day because there’s another team that is tough in the conference EKU Eastern Kentucky University; they use a lot of foreign runners, Kenyans and Europeans and they are very fast,” O’Brien said.

Junior Dan Plunkett ran an 8K in 26:30 and earned 150th place while at Bradley. Plunkett pulled a muscle in his lower back, which hurt his performance at Bradley.

“I’m looking to have a clean, injury-free race this weekend and just race the course that coach Lane has laid out for me and hopefully I live up to expectations,” Plunkett said.

Southeast will compete again at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 11 in Iowa City, Iowa.
