The Southeast Missouri State University soccer team scored more goals in its game Friday than it had during its first 10 games of the season.

The Redhawks scored six goals in the first half of a 6-0 win against Murray State and picked up its first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season. Southeast had only scored four goals so far this season.

Five Southeast players scored in the game, including defenders Hayley Abbott, Ali Bauer and Amy Harrington. Sophomore midfielder Torey Byrd had two goals and junior forward Jacey Boyko scored one.

"We talked a lot about our players being complete players," Southeast coach Heather Nelson said. "We defend a lot with our forward players and attack with our back players. They did a great job of both those things. We created some fantastic scoring opportunities and our players were on in terms of finishing."

Only five Southeast starters played more than 50 minutes, including junior goalkeeper Ashton Aubuchon who played the entire game. Aubuchon recorded her first win and shutout this season.

"It was great to give some of our younger players minutes in the second half," Nelson said. "They got a lot of quality minutes against a quality program that wasn't going to lay down in the second half."

The Redhawks' record improves to 2-6-3 and 1-0-1 in the OVC. The team's next game will be against OVC opponent Austin Peay at 1 p.m. Sunday at Houck Stadium.
