The Redhawks lost to Austin Peay 1-0 Sunday.

Despite a number of scoring opportunities, the Southeast Missouri State University soccer team couldn't manage to overcome Austin Peay Sunday afternoon.

The Redhawks lost to the Lady Govs 1-0. Both teams attempted 14 shots in the game.

The Lady Govs attempted six shots in the first 20 minutes of the game. Senior goalkeeper Renee Kertz recorded five saves in the first half and both teams remained scoreless at halftime.

In the 60th minute of play, Kertz was beaten in a foot race to the ball by Austin Peay senior forward Emily Perkins, which resulted in the only goal of the game. Kertz recorded eight saves in the game.

Southeast junior forward Courtney Luehmann attempted to bring the Redhawks' hopes for victory back to life.

Luehmann took three of her five shot attempts of the game within the last 30 minutes, but was unable to capitalize.

Luehmann had an opportunity to score in the 76th minute of play. She attempted a shot at a near open net, but the ball went wide of the goal.

"We had two great chances at the back post," Southeast coach Heather Nelson said in a university press release. "If we place those on goal, we probably score goals. The team picked it up as the game went on, which is credit to their heart and how fit they are."

Freshman forward Ashley Geist was also presented an opportunity to score in the 68th minute. A cross from junior forward Amy Ward found Geist's foot near the goal, but her shot was wide.

"Austin Peay is a very good team," Nelson said. "This was a great game. It's unfortunate that we ended up on the short end of the stick."

The Redhawks' record falls to 2-7-3 on the season, and 1-1-1 in OVC play. The Redhawks face OVC opponent SIU Edwardsville at 7 p.m. Friday in Edwardsville, Ill.
