CMO Fit will hold its first ever Fitness and Health Expo 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Recreation Center-North.

"CMO Fit is basically a student organization for students to educate, demonstrate and motivate others on fitness, eating healthy and the different opportunities for health and fitness," David Miller, the president of CMO Fit, said. "We also have fun events like movie nights or barbeques and fun sporting events like sand volleyball."

CMO Fit is an acronym for Constantly Making Others Fit. The organization tries to meet every other week. Meetings cover nutrition and exercise programs and include demonstrations.

"[We're] really just trying to give the students a whole spectrum of what they can do exercise-wise," Miller said.

The group has been trying to collaborate with Recreation Services to create more opportunities for students to learn about fitness and health.

"We felt that the rec center at the time when we came up with the idea [for the expo], which was about two years ago, we felt that they had good opportunities, but maybe not as many as we would like," Miller said. "Since then, the rec has made more improvements that we really like, so now we're trying to collaborate with them as much as possible."

Miller has been working with Sara Wagganer, Recreation Services' assistant director of fitness and wellness, to plan the expo.

"[Miller] was my student when I was an instructor here, he's great. We get along good, so we decided, 'Let's work together in this,'" Wagganer said. "He's very passionate about this field and so am I, so I'm like 'Let's try to make this happen.'"

Miller and Wagganer have been working since beginning of the semester to plan the expo and make it as educational as possible.

"The expo is basically just trying to let the students know about all of the organizations on campus that are involved in fitness and health. It could be anything from intramurals to running club, boxing club, just anything that has to do with fitness and health," Miller said.

CMO Fit is trying to get the dieticians on campus involved as well. Each club or organization will have its own booth at the expo.

"Basically what we've asked [each organization] to do is present when they meet, what they do, and if they can have a fun activity, presentation or demonstration. And maybe just a short handout of information students can take away," Miller said.

Miller plans to make a list of the organizations that can't make it. He feels that the expo is needed because there are so many fitness and health organizations on campus that students are unaware of.

"I was going through the list of organizations on campus and I came across two, maybe even three dozen I had never heard of and maybe as an incoming freshman I would have really liked to have been apart of," Miller said.

There will be more than just booths at the Fitness and Health Expo. Recreation Services will be offering free group fitness classes all night. There will also be door prizes, fitness contests and a survey so students can give their input on what they're looking for as far as fitness and wellness goes.

"[The surveys] are going to help us plan for the fall," Wagganer said.

Miller also plans to set up a "motivation station," which will be a projector screen with audio playing motivational YouTube videos.

"We're really just trying to get our name out there, but all of the other organizations as well. We want to give students an idea of what all is out there. Not everyone wants to run, not everyone wants to lift weights or swim, but they might like to dance, they might want to do a yoga class. Just give them the opportunities and say here's the availability of this group and what they do," Miller said. "When all is said and done, we hope students have a better idea of what all is offered on campus for them."
