Junior wide receiver Paul McRoberts fought through a Lisfranc, or midfoot, fracture late in the fourth quarter against No. 3 Southeastern Louisiana (2-2) on Sept. 20 and in doing so he caught the game-winning touchdown pass with 4.6 seconds remaining.

McRoberts will be out for at least four weeks for the Southeast Missouri State football team (2-2) and stated that he fractured his foot in the fourth quarter.

"Yeah, I felt it," McRoberts said. "But I just had to keep pushing it. In the fourth quarter there was a little bit of time, under a minute, and I was like, 'Man, I can finish this thing.' It was all adrenaline, and I had to finish."

McRoberts is now wearing a non-weight-bearing cast that is waterproof. The cast is waterproof so that McRoberts can get multiple pool workouts in to keep him in shape before he returns this season.

Southeast coach Tom Matukewicz said that he and the team had a good idea on Sunday that McRoberts had injured his foot, but it wasn't confirmed until Monday.

"He was limping [during the game], and so I knew something was up," Matukewicz said. "But he was able to just straight will it out because that's the only way you can do it. He did what he did. That last drive was on a broken foot."

On the final drive with a broken foot, McRoberts had two catches with the last one capping off the 15-play drive for a 2-yard touchdown catch, and Southeast got the win 24-23 over Southeastern Louisiana.

McRoberts is currently the team's leading receiver with 23 catches, 364 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

The six touchdowns that McRoberts has caught this season was tied for first in the Football Championship Subdivision along with Sacred Heart wide receiver Tyler Dube and Eastern Washington wide receiver Cooper Kupp.

"I didn't even really know that until my teammates told me, it's something I really don't keep track of," McRoberts said. "I just love the game and love helping my team win. But to know it and be out it's kind of like 'Ah, man.' I know people are going to pass me now, but I'm not really worried about it. I just love football."

McRoberts was also the only player on Southeast with more than one receiving touchdown before junior wide receiver Peter Lloyd caught two against UT Martin on Saturday. Lloyd had 10 receptions for 179 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-27 Ohio Valley Conference win.

Wide receiver/return specialist Spencer Davis and junior running back DeMichael Jackson each have a receiving touchdown on the year. Jackson is out with a broken hand, which he suffered against the Kansas Jayhawks (2-1) on Sept. 6.

In the same game that McRoberts suffered his foot injury, Davis broke the Southeast all-time career record in all-purpose yards and now has 2,304 for his career.

Davis finished the game with 145 all-purpose yards with 34 of them being receiving on five catches that he caught from senior quarterback Kyle Snyder.

"Me and Kyle have always had good chemistry," Davis said. "We've worked together for two years now, and it's my last year. Now we [wide receivers] always try to do the best to get open and with him making the right reads that's all that counts to this offense."

Davis and Snyder have connected 13 times this season for a total of 129 yards and the one touchdown that Davis caught against Kansas.

"I step up every day to be the best that I can," Davis said. "Trying to get these young guys to buy in and focus on what we're trying to accomplish here. This is an opportunity for somebody to step up and to fill [McRoberts'] role."

Matukewicz mentioned some players that he thinks will step up and take the role that McRoberts played.

"Adrian Davis, who is a true freshman, and I feel like we got some other guys we're looking to see," Matukewicz said. "Michael Ford, [Mike] Cyliax and [Tyler] McLemore."

Davis only has 5 catches on the season for 61 yards but has played in every game this season.

McRoberts is dealing with his injury one day at a time and will only be able to watch the games from the sidelines and keep in shape with his pool workouts until he returns.

"I've got this cast on, so I can't really do anything," McRoberts said. "I'm not glad this happened to me, but what an opportunity for these other guys to step up and really show what they can do and carry the team."
