Halloween is one of the best holidays of the year. Everyone loves dressing up for a night and eating as much candy as possible. The classic firefighter costume is something worn by little kids every year. If a youngster shows up at your door looking this cute, you are giving him as much candy as he wants. I don't remember if being a firefighter was my idea for Halloween or just a suggestion from my parents, but I really pulled it off. You can tell by my photo that I was really enjoying myself. I also have my mother to thank for my awesome mullet that I had for many years, not just for Halloween.

Halloween is the one time of the year when you can be anyone beside yourself, and for many years, I chose to be Michael Myers. Growing up, I was very cultured in the horror genre and my favorite movie of all horror movies was "Halloween," of course.

The seasonal tale of fictional serial killer Michael Myers has to be one of the most chilling stories of all time, and one that I really admire. Holding an emotionless face and scaring trick-or-treaters while acting as Michael Myers is something that I will never forget -- as well as wearing the movie-quality mask that my mom paid too much for.

Rewind back to high school and my older sister and I were the stereotypical teenage siblings, the kind you think of from cheesy family comedy flicks. We'd pound on the bathroom door whining that it was so-and-so's turn to get ready, pointing fingers when our mom asked why we were running so late. We've always had vastly different interests and vastly different personalities, but the saying "distance makes the heart grow fonder," I'd have to admit, is more or less true. I uncovered this Halloween picture recently and thought about us bickering over things neither of us can probably even remember and how now I always look forward to traveling home on breaks to catch up with the person who's never not been there for me. My family was never too big into Halloween, but our aunt and uncle brought back ballerina costumes from Disney World one year, and so we decided, "Why not match?" Of course candy's exciting when you're a little kid and shamelessly rocking a tutu and a scrunchie is pretty rad, but more than that, this Halloween was hands-down my favorite because my sister and I dressed up together.

When I was little, my mom and I used to coordinate Halloween costumes every year. One year we were pumpkins, and obviously the year the picture to the left was taken we were flowers. One of the main reasons this is a favorite costume of mine is the fact that my mom cared enough to make Halloween special for me by participating with me and dressing up too, not to mention the costumes were homemade.

Considering not many adults dress up for Halloween, I think it was really cool of my mom to get into the spirit with me and make Halloween fun and exciting. So kudos to Mom. Her Halloween game was on point.

Let's just put it out there. I was an adorable child, and to the left is exhibit A. But back to halloween. As a theater kid growing up, I loved acting like other people, and on Halloween, everyone did it with me.

But it was not all fun and games on Oct. 31 because there was always the scary stuff lurking in the background like a vampire about to suck out all your blood. Let's just say that I scare easily. I still don't like haunted houses. They freak me out and the only enjoyment that would be had by me being in one is everyone else seeing me lose it. Some of the scary stuff really freaked me out as a child. I would avoid those kids wearing those Ghostface masks like they were the plague and I was a kid in the Dark Ages. I was not going to be killed on Halloween. But it was always worth it because of the candy.

There is nothing is better than having a bag full of candy that is all yours, as a child. There is literally nothing better...except maybe being Captain Hook.

My favorite Halloween costume would have to be when I donned the most beautiful gown I had ever seen and was transformed into a beautiful princess. Truthfully, my mom probably had to fight me tooth and nail to get me into that dress because I was such a tomboy, but as soon as it was on that all changed (at least for that night). I seriously thought I ruled the world in this outfit, and that is what makes it my favorite.

By the look on my face I can just tell that I thought I was the queen of Halloween and that all others were merely peasants solely there to throw delicious sweets into my pillow case for being the prettiest princess in Springfield, Illinois. On top of that I must admit that I look utterly adorable, not to toot my own horn but how cute are those cheeks?!
