The Southeast Missouri State University Student Activities Council’s members pride themselves on being able to provide a laid-back environment where students can engage in activities that not only are fun, but also are free.

SAC’s first event is the Throwback Time Machine, also known as the Move-In Bash and it will be held Aug. 18 at the Kent Library fountain. At the Throwback Time Machine, students will have the opportunity to press a button that will take us back in time to a different decade and the DJ will then play a song from that time period.

Joanna Shaver, coordinator for campus programming, campus life and event services and adviser to SAC said the organization has a wide variety of events planned for this semester.

Some of the acts include Mission Improvable, which is an improv group from Chicago, The Filharmonic ,which is an acapella group that was featured on NBC’s “The Sing-Off” and in “Pitch Perfect 2.”

Students also will be able to attend events such as late-night movies, comedic performances and giveaway events.

Shaver said that sometimes SAC may bring acts to campus that are not as well known as others, but students should keep an open mind.

“Take a chance. It’s a free show,” Shaver said. “Come out and enjoy it, and then you might walk away saying a couple of years from now I saw ‘so and so’ comedian at Southeast and now they’re on ‘The Tonight Show.”

Keana Henderson, vice president of programming for SAC, said the council is an open organization, which allows students who attend their meetings and events, the ability to vote on different activities they would like to see come to campus.

Another event SAC will host is a hypnotist at 8 p.m. on Aug. 19 in the west gym of the Student Rec Center-North.

SAC’s meetings are held at 7 p.m. every Tuesday in the UC Redhawks Room. The first meeting will be Aug. 23.
