Sigma Nu fraternity was placed on interim suspension effective Aug. 9 while the university’s Office of Student Conduct initiated a review of alleged vandalism.

In a statement issued Thursday, Aug. 18, vice president for enrollment management and student success and dean of students Dr. Debbie Below stated the incident involved the former Shivelbine House that was occupied by the fraternity prior to the building's demolition. The incident was first reported on May 18.

Below indicated the Department of Public Safety investigated the incident and identified members of the fraternity in connection with the reported crime. As a result of the investigation, the members associated with the report were issued no trespass notices barring them from entering the newly constructed Sigma Nu house in Greek Village.

Because the fraternity also is on interim suspended as an organization, it is barred from participating in recruitment and philanthropic events while the investigation is ongoing.

Sigma Nu has not issued a comment at this time.
