The Race of the Century to stop in Cape Girardeau

The Race of the Century will begin in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Saturday and end in Carlsbad, California, on Sept. 25.

Participants of The Race of The Century 2016, will make an overnight stop in our city. An event is planned from 3 until 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 in downtown, Cape Girardeau.

At the event, antique cars and vintage motorcycles will be on display for guests to enjoy.

Oldies music will be an addition to the fun and food will be available. Port Cape will host dinner and local hotels welcome racers and those affiliated with the race.

Lonnie Isam, owner of Jurassic Racing in Sturgis, South Dakota, is the founder of the Motorcycle Cannonball Run and is promoting this historical transcontinental race across America.

Jason Sims, The director of operations for the historic event reports the bikes in the race pre-date 1916.

The cross country race will include 95 contestants from 25 states, four continents and nine countries, all will compete in the race. The race will begin Sept. 10, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and will end on Sept. 25 in Carlsbad, California, with a total of 3,304 miles driven.

Local event planning community leader Danny Essner encourages everyone to come out and enjoy this family-oriented event.
