On Sept. 7, Southeast Missouri State’s women’s soccer team defeated the Union Bulldogs 4-1.

In the first half senior midfielder/forward Natasha Minor scored two goals. Her first goal was a penalty kick and her second goal was off the goalie’s hands. She got assistance on her second goal from Maddi Karsten, sophomore defender.

In the second half of the game Union scored its first goal by sophomore midfielder/defender Summer Senn. Minor scored another goal with an assist from freshman midfielder Esmeralda Gonzales. Scoring a penalty kick and the fourth goal for Southeast was junior midfielder/defender Maggie Pike.

Minor felt the team was working well together.

“My teammates were on point tonight, they are all the time,” Minor said.” They just found me and found the ball and we just finished as a team.”

Union had five fouls while Southeast had 16 fouls during the game. Southeast took 24 shots and Union took three shots.

Junior goalkeeper Kindra Lierz played the entire game and saved three shots. Kristen Francis, Union junior and goalkeeper, saved eight goals.

It was the first game back for Gonzales, who has been injured.

“It feels great playing with the team again,” Gonzales said. “It’s really amazing. I love getting on the field and playing with the girls. It’s just like one big happy family.”

Pike scored her second goal of the season during the game.

“It was the second [penalty kick] that I drew,” Pike said. “Thankfully so much our team guarded out there for me.”

Sophomore defender/midfielder Siena Senatore did not play during the game. Senatore has played in the five games leading up to Wednesday night’s game.

Southeast's women's soccer team plays again 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, against Florida Atlantic at Houck Stadium.
