The seventh annual Vintage NOW Fashion Show, a charity event that benefits the Safe House for Women, was held Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau. All of the proceeds from the show are going to a capital campaign fund to build a new shelter for the Safe House for Women.

“This is such a unique and fun event for everyone and there is nothing else like it in Southeast Missouri,” Paige Foeste, a cover model for Vintage NOW, said. More than 700 seats were put out on the floor with an estimated 1,200 people in attendance with standing room included.

Naomi Parker Fraley, the original Rosie the Riveter, who is now in her 90s, appeared on the big screen as the show began to wish success to Cape Girardeau on their fundraising event. “Last year they raised over $60,000 and this year they were on track to top that,” Deborah Schlitt Foeste said.

Each year there is a decade theme, and this year was USO in the 1940s.

“I loved the outfits this year, I’ve attended every year and this was the most creative, best outfits and the energy made me feel like I was in the ’40s. Looking forward to next year already,” Constance Dement, another attendee of the show, said.

Although the show was upbeat and entertaining to its guests, the message of the charity event and purpose was shown well through everyone involved.

“I would have to say my favorite part was seeing a variety of beautiful women supporting women in our community and coming together to bring awareness to domestic violence,” Paige Foeste said. “I’m so honored to be a part of this and knowing that I’m helping a great cause in some way.”
