Kent Library held a costume contest for students on Friday, Oct. 28. Six Southeast Missouri State University students participated in the contest.

The contestants introduced themselves and described their costumes. The three faculty judges included Leah McAlister, Abby Wheatley and Brittany Colbert.

The contestants were Natalie Gladbach, freshman; Billy Brooks, sophomore; Nicky Szendzial, sophomore; Nathan Justice, junior; Ashleigh Taylor, sophomore; and Jessica Strunk, junior.

Gladbach, the first contestant, was dressed as Rapunzel.

“I wanted a theme of Renaissance,” she said.

Brooks was the second contestant and his costume was Deadpool. He said he bought and customized his costume.

“Deadpool for president 2016,” he said.

Szendzial dressed as Ramona Flowers from “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.”

Justice’s costume was Batman.

“I won a fight against Superman,” he said.

Taylor was Osaki Kitsune, which is an anime character.

Strunk was the final contestant dressed as Rogue, a Marvel comic book character.

“Who knows Rogue, you can’t touch her,” she said.

Audience members were given riddles during the competition, and the individual who provided the correct answer won a prize.The winners of the competition were announced at the end and each were given a ribbon and a gift card. Gladbach came in first place, Taylor came in first runner-up and Szendzial was second runner-up.
