It is that time of the semester when both students and faculty at Southeast Missouri State University may be feeling burnt out, stressed and in need of an escape from the tediousness of work and school

A group of Southeast students, who would like to keep their identities anonymous, decided they wanted to help bring glimmers of positivity to those who may need it. The members have left painted rocks across campus with messages such as “relax”, “smile” and “believe” to be found by any pedestrian walking throughout Southeast. “Rockin’ Good Vibes” was an idea started thanks to inspiration from the photo-sharing website, Pinterest.

“We saw a post about a woman who would paint rocks and leave them around for people to find,” a representative of Rockin’ Good Vibes said. “We thought this sounded like something fun to do as well, but then decided we could use it to spread a positive message.”

The group also thought it was timely for a streak of positive messages because of the recently stressful election season. Division and tension have been common the past several months due to opposing viewpoints and the presidential candidates, so Rockin’ Good Vibes thought now was a more important time than ever to spread uplifting messages.

“We just came out of a crazy election cycle, so we decided people could probably use more positivity in their daily lives,” the Rockin’ Good Vibes representative said. “We know there is a lot of fear and hatred out there in the world right now. We just want to do what we can to bring some positivity into people’s daily lives. We know we can’t take away all the problems in the world, but if we can make at least one person’s day better by spreading our message, that is good enough for us.”

The rocks have been found in Kent Library, at the University Center and at the River Campus. Rockin’ Good Vibes would like the Southeast community to not follow any kind of negative energy. Their message is simply “to spread happiness and positivity all around.” To find out how to become part of this group or contribute to its mission, visit the “Rockin’ Good Vibes” Facebook page or Instagram @rockingoodvibes.
