Southeast Missouri State is approaching the week of finals and many are finding ways to lower and decrease stress.

One major thing students often find is a way to uplift the spirit is music and dance. These not only even out levels of stress, but also make it easier to focus on given class material and open the creative part of the brain according to Beth Belle Cooper of the Bufferapp Blog.

The worlds of dance and music are two very diverse subjects, touching all walks of life and giving anyone with interest in either subject a way to relate.

“Music has been a part of my life since I was born. I feel overwhelmed every day of the week, so I dance and listen to music about 95 percent of the time,” said Kate Hermann a student at the university strongly rooted in her irish heritage .“I think life would be very boring without music, because music is a very big part of everyone’s lives today,” Southeast student Lauren Boardman said.

The American Psychological Association or Apa.Org showed 66 percent of teens turn to music when stressed or worried. There is a genre of music and style of dance for anyone. Music not only leaves an impact on students, it is a great representation of how diverse music can be to people from all walks of life.
