With the start of a new semester at Southeast Missouri State University comes a calendar full of events for students on campus. From classes, basketball games, plays, Speakers Series presenters and much more, there are many events for students.

The semester will kick off with the first Speakers Series presenter at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Dinner with Mary Frances Berry. The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Show Me Center. The last speaker of the year is "An Evening with Shawn Johnson" at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Show Me Center.

The Fancy That! Dress Sale will be happening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 28 in the third floor lobby at the University Center. The dress sale is an annual event that benefits the Safe House for Women in Cape Girardeau. Short dresses will cost $15 and long dresses $25.

Recreation Services always has events going on for anyone who is looking to break a sweat. From intramural information to group fitness classes, check their page for more at www.semo.edu/recservices/.

If you are looking to watch other people break a sweat you can always cheer on the Redhawks. The baseball, softball, track and field, tennis and both men's and women's basketball teams will have events near and far. For all complete calendars of sporting events, visit gosoutheast.com.

The River Campus is celebrating its 10th season with many events. The semester starts off with "The Bartered Bride" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Bedell Performance Hall.

Southeast senior Andrew Bailey encourages all students to come down to the River Campus.

"I do believe that every one of our students at Southeast should come to the River Campus at least once and view a show, a musical or anything that would, I guess, help them in society with the arts," Bailey said.

Career Services has many events planned this semester. According to Dan Presson, employer relations coordinator for Career Services, a new event is guest mock interviews. These interviews will be given by alumni or local employers so students get real-world feedback.

The Spring Career Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Student Recreation Center. The expo this semester will focus on full-time employment.

Career Services will have an interactive map in the University Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 28. This map will show where graduate programs, internships and more are all located in Missouri. Students will be able to take their shoes off and walk around and explore the map.

Career Service events are one way students can prepare for their future.

"Our office is here on this campus to make sure every student that uses our services leaves here prepared and ready to jump into the workforce," Presson said.

Presson said Career Services is hosting more events this semester than any other. For a full list of the events, visit www.semo.edu/careers/events/index.html.

Spring break will be from March 13 through 17. The baseball team also has a game at 6 p.m. on March 17 at Capaha Park against UT Martin. "Escalation" will be showing at the River Campus Art Gallery the whole week.
