Douglas "Fish" Fisher, Southeast area coordinator, hosted his free concert "Two humans, One message" Thursday, Feb. 2, in the University Center Ballroom to promote unity within the Southeast Missouri State University community.
To unite Southeast students, Fisher verbally prompted students to get closer to the stage and join in on singing and dancing, making the crowd just as much a part of the performance as he was.
Attendees at the concert included Southeast President Carlos Vargas; Pam Vargas, director of Research and Grant Development; Student Government Association president Peyton Mogley; and an array of faculty, staff, students and even children and community members.
"I thought it was light-hearted, personal and a courageous event that allowed various groups of people to showcase some of their skills in front of an intimate audience," Mogley said. "I thought the central message of the event was more love, less questions; more action, less doubt."
Mogley said that she knew Fisher on a personal level and wanted to show her love and support.
"I don't think it really takes a lot to show support, appreciation or mutual excitement for the things others are doing if you are invested in who they are as people," Mogley said. "It is my hope the audience took away those same, if not similar, sentiments and will look forward to exploring all the many wonderful ways to show and express their own love for the people that mean something to them."
The Fingerprint Dance Community also was given the spotlight during the show as the memebers danced to Fisher's songs.
Fisher also brought PRIDE president and guitarist Rane Belling to the stage to perform a cover of Maroon 5's "Sunday Morning" followed by an original piece, "Secrets." Joining in on the songs, the crowd was especially entertained by Belling's last song "Chains," which prompted the most crowd participation and applause.
Fisher showcased his most recent album "Forgive Me, Father, For I Have Autotuned," which include "Sinner" and the crowd favorite "S.W.A.G.G." just to name a few.
