The Aerial Swing Club hosted a Disney-themed dance on Saturday, Feb. 18, in the UC Ballroom B.

Members of the club decorated the ballroom with five tables that each had its own Disney theme. The themes included “Peter Pan,” “UP,” Disney villains, princesses, and “Snow White.”

“We thought the Disney theme would be a good one to start the semester off with,” freshman and member of the Aerial Swing Dance Club, Brenden Grosberger said.

The night began with members of the club teaching the basic steps of swing dance to the attendees who were new to swing dance.

“There are about eight teachers and the club consists of about 30 members,” Grosberger said.

Throughout the night, everyone would grab a partner and swing dance to Disney music along with popular music.

A couple of students from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla attended the event and said that they come to the swing dance club’s events and invite members to their events.

“We try to hold about two socials a semester, and this is the first one for this semester and everyone that comes is welcomed to dance,” Grosberger said.

Senior Ashley Hanson and president of the Aerial Swing Club said last semester’s themes were 40s Hollywood and a Harry Potter Yule Ball theme. The club has been hosting themed dances since spring 2015.

The club will be hosting a workshop in March to help promote the club to other universities and students, and they will show a variety of dances shown.

The club meets up from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at Parker gym.

“Everyone is welcome and it’s a great place to meet people and bond with them,” Hanson said.

The next dance will be held on April 22.
