Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus will host a three-day horn workshop starting on March 17.

The event will run from Friday, March 17, through Sunday, March 19. On Friday, the event will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday will be from 7 a.m. till 7:30 p.m. and Sunday will last from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be various activities going on throughout the day.

"It is a regional gathering of horn players that is sponsored in part by the International Horn Society. Each year many of the regions in the country host workshops," Nicholas Kenney, assistant professor of horns and assistant director of bands, said.

"It's putting the horn as the featured instrument and showing what horn players do, what we study to do, what we teach and what we perform," Kenney said.

There will be about 250 horn players from the area and further areas.

There also will be featured artists coming from the Colorado Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, University of Kansas City-Missouri and the Czech Philharmonic.

Some of the featured artists are Katerina Javurková, Martin Hackleman, Roger Kaza, Thomas Jöstlein, Christopher Dwyer, Tod Bowermaster and Julie Thayer.

"There will be competitions for students, chances for professors and artists from the area to perform and professional development aspects in the way of lectures for the professors to give and to attend so they can learn more about what we are doing as horn teachers," Kenney said.

There also will be various exhibitors who will be located in the Glenn Convocation Center.

"The event caters to a wide variety of people and I hope people hear the horn for the magnificent instrument that it is," Kenney said.

Tickets for the featured artist performances can be purchased by visiting the River Campus Box Office located at 518 S. Fountain St. during the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, via the website at RiverCampusEvents.com or by calling (573) 651-2265.
