It is an exciting year for Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus as it is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a special performance.

“A Tribute to the River Campus” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall.

The concert will entail a pre-show talk that will start at 6:45 p.m. it will be free with the purchase of a ticket for the concert. The audience will hear about the history of the River Campus, along with information regarding what will be seen and heard throughout the concert.

The Choral and Orchestra will be presenting the audience with pieces that have never been heard before at the River Campus. One piece in particular is titled “Timeless Banks and Shoals” by composer Dr. Gordon (Dick) Goodwin. Goodwin captures the history of the River Campus and the role the St. Vincent Seminary building has played in making this history.

“When you have been doing a piece that has been done before you can have students look at YouTube, listen to it and see how the piece goes, but here we have to learn by just doing it ourselves, that is very exciting,” Dr. Sara Edgerton, Director of orchestra and applied low strings (Cello, Double Bass) said, “It’s been a big learning experience.”

Students have been preparing for this concert since the beginning of the semester. Many have had their pieces since before Christmas break, which gave them the opportunity to practice over the break.

There will be three solo artist performances in the first half of the show. One soloist, Elizabeth Nquyen is a high-school student from St. Louis, who has the opportunity to perform after winning this year’s Rising Star competition. The other two soloists were the winners of the Concerto and Aria Competition, Fujia Zhang and Eric Matthew Flannagan.

Tickets are available and will vary from $16 to $19 for the public and will be $3 for students with a valid Southeast ID.
