Dr. Gerald McDougall died at his home on Sunday evening. There was no known evidence that McDougall was ill any time before his death.

McDougall served Southeast Missouri State University for 24 years and was set to retire in June. He was serving as the associate provost for the School of Extended Learning and as dean of the Harrison College of Business. As a tenured faculty member, he served as the executive director of the University Foundation and as the executive director of the Office of International Education and Services, and twice as interim provost and vice president for University Advancement Services.

According to the email sent out by university President Carlos Vargas, McDougall was known for “his ability to adapt to almost any administrative position and his willingness to take on new roles and new assignments.”

McDougall is survived by his wife who worked for the university in the Childcare Resources and Referral Office, his two daughters, grandchildren and extended family.

Service arrangements are still pending, and counseling services are available for anyone affected.
