The Southeast Missouri State University Arrow, an award-winning student-run paper since 1911, received national recognition over spring break by taking second place in the David L. Adams Apple Awards contest at the College Media Association's spring convention in New York City.

The Arrow came in second place in the Best News Delivery category for its 2016 election coverage. The Arrow is managed entirely by Southeast students with guidance from content adviser Logan Young and the paper's faculty adviser, Dr. Tamara Zellars Buck.

"Being recognized for good work is always exciting," Buck said. "However, this recognition is even more so because of the level of competition, the complexity of the work and innovations that students used to accomplish that work. I'm extremely proud and happy for them."

Leading up to election night, journalism and advertising students teamed up through a collaboration class offered by the mass media program that teaches students how to become media managers.
