It is an exciting semester for Southeast Missouri State University student Michael Curry, also known as "Crank," as he will host a dance battle filled with unique styles of urban dances for all ages and originality.

"When I came up with the name Crank, it really spoke to me because it was original, simple and really summed up the type of movement I'm interested in. All of my life, I've been interested in the arts and when I saw dance it really spoke to my soul," Curry said.

"Battlez of Originality" will be held from 2 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, in the UC Ballroom. There will be door prizes, two $300 prizes for the first-place winners of the Adults Breaking and Adults All-Styles categories and $50 for the Kid's All-Styles category.

The battle will include featured battles such as Richard Grzelka (STL) vs. Domo (STL) and G.L.I.T.C.H (STL) vs. Dre Klutch Moore (ATL). There will be three judges to determine the winners of the prizes: Corey Anderson, D'Ron Yancey and Julius Iglide Chisolm.

Curry wanted to create a place for all students who are interested in the street dance world to express themselves and he believed this would be a great way to accomplish that goal.

"I don't really have a dance performance that hasn't been memorable, because for me, every performance has its own feeling, experience, and lesson to teach me as the dancer through the sounds and emotions that are being interpreted through the music; so as a dancer I believe it is my job to interpret those same qualities to my audience through dance," Curry said.

Curry encourages all to come watch the show or participate if they would like.

Tickets are available for $2 to the public and are free for Southeast students.
