Students seeking to register an organization at Southeast Missouri State University for the 2017-2018 school year can begin on Tuesday, April 18.

All student groups and organizations are encouraged to capitalize on the university resources and register with the university, including pre-existing organizations who are required to register again every year.

Campus Life and Event Services is making it easier for organizations to register with the utilization of a new system called OrgSync. The new system moves the entire registration process online for students.

The official deadline to register, which has not yet been set by Southeast officials, will be sometime in September. Students who are interested or wanting to learn more about registering their organization can attend one of the two informational meetings provided by Campus Life. The organization registration informational meetings will be held 4 p.m., April 18 and at noon, April 19 in Dempster room 003.

Organizations registered through the university receive substantial benefits compared to those who are not registered. President of the College Democrats at Southeast and junior Zackary Dunn said with the resources granted from being registered, his organization was able to make a comeback.

“Being registered with the university makes it much easier to be an organization,” Dunn said. “They can help support your events, give you a space to meet and give you exposure to the student body … we founded our chapter and have grown to over 30 people in the matter of a semester.”

According to Dunn there was a previous Democrat organization on campus, but it did not have a presence for almost four years prior to the current College Democrats at Southeast revival.

Another draw for students to register their organizations is the funding opportunities. There are two different channels an organization can go through to receive financial support. Dollars for Innovative Campus Events (DICE), is a funding source any student organization can apply for and receive on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The second possibility to financial support comes from Student Government. All registered student organizations are eligible to receive Student Government funding, which can be used for events, conferences, equipment, competitions and so on.

Students interested in learning more about the Student Organization Registration process may contact Campus Life and Event Services at (573)651-2280 or campuslife@semo.edu.
