Students approaching graduation at Southeast Missouri State University may have noticed an increase in post-graduate career opportunities. Career Service’s staff working diligently with new and returning company recruiters who are seeking to fill job and internship roles with Southeast students.

Career Services Coordinator of Employee Relations Dan Presson communicates regularly with job and internship recruiters from companies across the nation.

“I would get on top of the copper dome if they’d let me and shout out how good Southeast students are,” Presson said. “It is my goal at this university to expose employers and students to Southeast talent.”

Unilevel, carGo, the Girl Scouts and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency are just some of the diverse group of employers across the country currently in contact with Career Services. One of the bigger names regularly seeking Southeast talent is Wells Fargo.

“Wells Fargo up in St. Louis just loves SEMO students.” Presson said.

Some of the biggest companies in St. Louis have open lines of communication with Career Services attributed to their annual need of roughly 1,000 new hires. Students would not be exposed to these jobs without Career Services because these listings are not being on the typical job listing sites that many students rely on, such as indeed.com.

“These employers want our students. They are here specifically to recruit from Southeast for a reason because they see the value in a SEMO grad,” Presson said.

Southeast alumni in executive positions have been a major resource for Career Services, including assisting students with application processes for jobs and internships.

“We have been really utilizing the SEMO network to get these opportunities to students,” Presson said.

The Career Expo is just one of the many events scheduled by Career Services to assist students with preparing them for life after college. All of these events can be seen on their website http://www.semo.edu/careers/events/index.html and all of these resources remain available to students after graduation.

Although all of the events are listed online, oftentimes job recruiters contact Career Services just days in advance leaving little time to communicate. This is why all students are encouraged to follow Career Services on social media to ensure they do not miss out on their potential dream job coming through Southeast.

Students can follow @SECareerServices on Facebook, @SECareerService on Twitter and @Semocareerservices on Instagram for the most up to date information on potential jobs.
