Seniors Madeline Grimm, and Haley Bilbruck, and freshman Claire Ochs were announced as the Southeast volleyball team captains for the 2018 season on Aug. 20.

Grimm, said she believes the Redhawks have all they need to be at the top of the Ohio Valley Conference before the season is over. The outside hitter and defensive specialist is primed to make a big impact in her fourth year with the team.

“Everyone is on the same page this year; we’re definitely going to be a team to look out for,” Grimm said.

Bilbruck, is a senior hitter who transferred from the University of Nevada Las-Vegas last season. She said she is prepared to provide leadership on and off the floor and that winning the OVC is a definite goal.

“I don’t see us as being an eight- or ninth-place team; we have much more discipline,” Bilbruck said.

The final captain is Ochs. Although it is unusual for a freshman to be named captain, Ochs embraces the opportunity. Fresh off of winning a state championship with St. Joseph’s Academy High School in St. Louis, as well as an all-state selection, she’s eager to make an impact for the Redhawks.

Ochs said she does not really feel any pressure being given this responsibility this early in her collegiate career.

“I’m a setter, we have to know how to lead,” Ochs said.

Last season the Redhawks finished 11-20 overall and 6-10 in conference play. Catch the Redhawks in action again for their home opener on Friday, Aug. 31 at 12:30 p.m. at Houck Fieldhouse.
