Marquis Terry is in his second season with the Redhawks after transferring from Highland Community College in Kansas. Coming into the year, he was picked as a preseason All-American and preseason Ohio Valley Conference offensive player of the year. He broke the school and OVC single game records, with 311 rushing yards and 438 all-purpose yards in a 48-44 win over Southern Illinois University-Carbondale on Sept. 15. Terry and the Redhawks will next be in action Sept. 22 as Southeast (2-1) visits Eastern Kentucky (1-2) in OVC play.

Q: Hometown?

A: Atlanta, Georgia

Q: When did you first play football?

A: I was 10 years old.

Q: Was it love as soon as you put the pads on and ran your first play?

A: I always played backyard football with my uncles since I was about 4 years old. So yeah, it was.

Q: What’s your favorite football memory?

A: Being able to play with my younger brother when I was in high school. I love my family, so being able to experience actually playing football with him was a great experience and my favorite memory.

Q: Are you still better than your younger brother? Is he better than you now?

A: No, I got him, but hopefully he gets me later. Hopefully he grows up and watches me and gets his own style. I have another younger brother too - there is three of us. He may be better than both of us. He may get both of us. I hope he does.

Q: What made you choose SEMO?

A: Recruitment wise, the [former offensive coordinator Jon Wiemers] and [running backs] Coach Matt Martin had came and talked to me two times. Coach [Tom Matukewicz] came up and he had talked to me, so I felt like it was a lot of commitment there with me and with them. I felt the care there more than anyone else, so I felt like it was a good fit for me.

Q: What did it mean to you to break the conference record for rushing yards and all-purpose yards in a game?

A: It means a lot to me. I really just wanted to get that win for my team. That was mostly on my mind, but to have something that’s in SEMO’s name now, that is great for the community. I love that. Just me being able to go out there and play for my team and play for God.

Q: Favorite NFL team?

A: The Falcons. I watch a ton of NFL, but all Atlanta teams are my favorite teams. Braves, Hawks, everything.

Q: What do you see yourself doing after SEMO?

A: I see myself getting a shot at the NFL, if the Lord blesses me with that opportunity. If not, owning my own business, [and] spending a lot of time with my family. Just being a successful young man, spreading the word of God.

Q: Have you heard anything from the NFL? Do you think you will get that chance?

A: Yeah, I’ve talked to a couple scouts, but I’m just really staying focused on the season. When it’s that time, then it’s that time for that to come around.

Q: What are your expectations for the rest of the year?

A: Us to keep rolling. We had a good week last week, but we got a new week this week, and then the next week, and so on and so on until we get to our goal. So just keep moving.

Q: What do you like to do outside of football?

A: Spend time with my family. I’m very family oriented. Spend time with my teammates. I got a PS4 so I play that a little bit. Just enjoy my life.

Q: Favorite game?

A: My favorite game is actually on PS3, NCAA Football 2014.

Q: Any other video games? Madden? Fortnite?

A: I play Madden, I play Fortnite, I play a bunch of everything. I’m a very open minded guy.

Q: Did you play any other sports growing up?

A: Not recreational, but always in the backyard.

Q: What’s your favorite place to eat in Cape?

A: Can I say no comment on that? (laughter). I go to a lot of places out here, I like O’Charley’s, I like a lot of places down by the river, Wings Etc., El Tapatio, Burrito-Ville. I like a lot of places.

Q: Favorite kind of music?

A: I like hip hop, but I also listen to pop. I know country-Florida Georgia Line, stuff like that. Nickelback, all of that stuff.

Q: Who’s your favorite artist?

A: Future is my favorite artist.

Q: Gotta represent Atlanta, right?

A: Yeah, of course.

Q: Who did you look up to growing up?

A: My mom. She’s always been there for me since forever. She actually made a move when I was in middle school. She asked me what high school I wanted to go to, and I told her I wanted to go to Charles Drew and she actually moved just so I could go to that school, so that I could be where I’m at right now, doing the things I’m doing now.
