Students were “Clueless” watching “Friday” on a Thursday night as they took a throwback trip to watch the ‘90s films at the Rock ‘N’ Roll Drive-In. The event was hosted Sept. 30 by the Students Activities Council (SAC) as part of SAC Week. Shuttles were available for students to ride to and from the theater. Gates opened at 5:30 p.m., and the movies started at 7 p.m.

SAC coordinator Tavia Eanes hopes by having events such as the drive-in theater excursion, students will get involved and come to events off campus as well as on campus.

“We just wanted to have an event that would bring a lot of students out to chill with us and get to know a little bit more about SAC and all we hope to offer for the campus,” Eanes said.

Rock ‘N’ Roll Drive-In co-owner Chuck Stratton kept the concession stands stocked; Tubbs Cook Shack food truck was also on-site for students to buy refreshments from.

“We have our concession hut going — popcorn, soda, candy, nachos, ice cream, we’ve got pretty much whatever you want to snack on,” Stratton said.

SAC excursion coordinator Ronl Tauro showed up early to the drive-in because of his excitement to see the movies and to meet new people.

“This is my first time [going to a drive-in],” Tauro said. “I’m pretty pumped about it; that’s why I showed up so early.”

Before the movie started, students played cornhole and relaxed in a different environment other than on campus.

The drive-in excursion was the third event of SAC Week hosted from Sept. 28 through Oct. 1.

“SAC week, this semester, is just a week really about recruitment and to get our name out there so people know what SAC is,” Eanes said.

The Rock ‘N’ Roll Drive-In is located at 272 Drive-In Lane in Chaffee, Mo. The entertainment venue shows movies Friday and Saturday nights. Southeast students get $5 off per car with their Southeast ID. For more information about Rock ‘N’ Roll Drive-In, visit their website at rocknrolldrivein.com.
