In a nationally-televised game that took 45 minutes to find a winner, the Redhawks came up just short, dropping Thursday night's game 74-73 against the Morehead State University Eagles. The Eagles outscored the Redhawks 10-9 in the five-minute overtime period.

Redhawks head coach Brad Korn said he was proud of the way his team performed against the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) co-leader Eagles.

“I think it shows that we've made progress and now it's not just words of saying oh we're gonna do this,” Korn said. “We've done it with the way that we've played and now there's a confidence I think about us that we deserve to be there.”

Redshirt junior guard Chris Harris said he was glad his team was able to battle and show SEMO in a positive light on national television.

“I think we reflected that we're definitely a team that can play with anybody when we come and play the right way. I know it wasn't the outcome we got but you know, it is good for SEMO to be seen like this because over the years we haven't been looked at as very good,” Harris said. “We've always been looked at as the get-right team, and it's good for us to display that. You know, we can play with anybody and we have the talent and tools to do so.”

Coach Korn said he did not have to make many adjustments in a game without freshman guard Phillip Russell.

“The only adjustments were more of ‘okay Chris, now you're gonna have to handle a little bit more of a point guard, ball handling, ball screen situations, a little bit more’ which he did last year ago,” Korn said. “Chris actually had a lot of success against Morehead being the point guard and especially in the conference tournament.”

Harris stepped up in a big way for the Redhawks off the bench. He led the team in scoring on the night with 22 points on 9-14 shooting from the floor.

“It doesn't matter who starts, it matters who finishes the game. So I know that when I go in, I'm able to have an immediate impact and give my team energy right away,” Harris said. “I think that's something, you know, sometimes we lack.”

The Redhawks led for just over 34 minutes in the game, but it was the little things that cost them the game. They shot only 8-14 from the free throw line and gave up 15 offensive rebounds.

The team will not have much time to dwell on the loss. They are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 29, with tipoff set for 4 p.m. against Southern Illinois Edwardsville at the Show Me Center.
