The Redhawks men’s basketball team lost to the Belmont Bruins 72-81 on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Show-Me Center, allowing 23 points from turnovers, and shooting just 24% from three-point range.

Redhawks coach Brad Korn said one of the key factors in Saturday’s loss was the turnovers.

“Obviously too many turnovers against a team of Belmont’s caliber, I just think maybe just a little bit too tight trying to make perfect plays instead of just being under control,” Korn said.

Eric Reed, Phillip Russel, and Nana Akenten, three of the Ohio Valley Conference’s leaders in three-pointers, combined for just seven made threes for a 24% shooting percentage. The Redhawks only made two of their 17 attempted three-point shots in the second half.

Southeast remained competitive, but Belmont capitalized on the Redhawks’ turnovers, producing 23 points from 16 turnovers compared to SEMO’s 11 points on 16 turnovers.

Senior center Manny Patterson was two points shy of tying his career high in points, scoring 20 points off of eight for nine shooting and going four for five from the free throw line.

Despite being guarded by the OVC’s third-most effective shot blocker, Nick Muszynski, Patterson was able to grab four offensive rebounds, and lead the Redhawks in scoring.

“I just play with a relentless motor, that’s all,” Patterson said. “If I play smart and play harder it takes care of itself.”

Southeast currently sits in fourth place in the OVC, and are primed to make their second consecutive OVC tournament appearance in their current position .

The Redhawks will hit the road to take on the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
