In a game that saw the Chiefs and the Eagles put up 73 points combined the Chiefs came out on top to become world champions. The Eagles scored on the game's opening drive on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jalen Hurts.

On the following drive, Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs down the field on the next drive capped by an 18-yard touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce. The Chiefs had a chance to take the lead at the end of the first quarter on a 42-yard field goal attempt by Harrison Butker. The kick had the distance but doinked off the left upright.

The second quarter started with a bang when Hurts found wide receiver A.J. Brown behind two defenders for a 45-yard touchdown. The Eagles defense forced a three-and-out on the ensuing drive and it was the Chiefs’ defense turn to make a statement.

On third and six the Chiefs’ defense did just that and forced a fumble which was recovered by linebacker Nick Bolton and returned for 36 yards and 6 points. A Butker point after attempt (PAT) tied the game at 14 apiece.

Hurts put the Eagles back on top with a 4-yard rushing touchdown with 2:20 left in the second quarter. As time expired in the first half Eagles kicker Jake Elliot nailed a 35-yard field goal to increase the lead to 24-14.

However, the biggest story of the first half was Mahomes re-injuring his left ankle which he first injured during the Divisional game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. He could be seen limping into the locker room to end the first half.

To open up the second half Chiefs rookie running back Isiah Pacheco ran the ball in from 1-yard out to bring the game within three points. An Elliot field goal with 1:45 left in the third quarter increased the Eagles' lead back to six points

Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney caught a 5-yard touchdown from Mahomes in the fourth quarter and a Butker PAT put the Chiefs ahead 28-27 their first lead of the game. On the ensuing drive, the Chiefs' defense forced a three-and-out and Toney made history on the punt return.

Toney returned the punt 65-yards to the five-yard line and Mahomes found rookie wide receiver Skyy Moore from four yards out to extend the Chief lead to 35-27. With under six minutes left in the fourth quarter, Hurts found Devonta Smith for 46 yards setting up Hurts for his third rushing touchdown of the game and fourth total. A two-point conversion rush from Hurts tied the game up at 35.

A late holding call on Eagles cornerback James Bradberry IV led to an automatic first down for the Chiefs and the game-winning field goal from Butker from 27 yards out. Hurts could not find a receiver on the final play of the game and the Chiefs claimed their second Super Bowl title in four years.

Hurts finished the game 27/38 for 304 yards and one touchdown through the air. He had 70 yards on the ground and three more touchdowns. Mahomes finished the game 21/27 for 182 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 44 yards on the ground on six attempts en route to Super Bowl MVP.
