The Redhawks men’s basketball team dropped their competition against the Morehead State University Eagles by a score of 65-59 on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Show Me Center.

SEMO started off a little slow and was able to pick it up in the second half, but it was just a little too late.

“We didn’t feel like we had it today,” head coach Brad Korn said. “We didn’t have any momentum. I think we competed for the most part, but we just didn’t have enough.”

Sophomore guard Phillip Russell led the Redhawks once again, with 20 points and four rebounds. He also went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.

“I feel like we got out and ran well,” Russell said. “We were great from the free throw line, so that’s a bonus.”

The Redhawks were 17-21 from the free throw line in the competition.

Sophomore guard Aquan Smart was the second leading scorer, with 14 points to match his season-high. He also added four rebounds.

“I felt like there were a lot of mental lapses out there,” Smart said. “But I feel like we played harder in the second half. There were a lot of things we did wrong in the first half and I just felt like we waited too long to make a comeback.”

Phillip Russell said whatever it takes to win will be his biggest mindset going into the final four games of their regular season.

The Redhawks will be back in action with two home games at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 against Eastern Illinois and Southern Indiana.
