The computer labs on campus should be open 24 hours. The computer labs should be open 24 hours because if the administration is going to promote online classes, they should assist students taking those classes by leaving the labs open. Some students who work during the day need the later hours, after 9 p.m., for instance, or who actually do homework on the weekends (yes, college students do homework on the weekends, I'm sure the people who aren't college students are shocked) need them open longer. I heard a story that a girl who had an online final went down to the computer to check on something, thinking the hours were still 24 hours, found out it closed at 9 p.m. and failed her final because she couldn't get her objectives. Yes, students should probably think about these things, but most don't, because if something is due at 11:59 p.m. and that person gets it in at 11:58 p.m., that assignment is still submitted on time. With the Dropbox feature, and with increased drive online as well as increased amounts of online classes, the computer labs on campus should be 24 hours. And, if they are not going to be 24 hours, the school needs to do two things: a) promote the changes better, and b) find another alternative to online classes, because potentially hurting students' grades, while compelling students to take online classes, to close the computer lab earlier is not an effective solution.
