Career Linkages is hosting a unique targeted Career event aimed at all Southeast majors graduating in 2012, who wish to work in the Southeast region. Partnership of Prospects, a collaboration with the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce's Young Professional network, and is designed to connect regional employers with Southeast students.

"This event is not your typical job fair" commented Joyce Hunter, Experiential Learning Coordinator at Southeast Missouri State University. "The program is intentionally planned, so both parties are prepared to make meaningful connections", said Hunter. Students need to register before April 10 to be qualified to participate. Next students agree to participate in a resume and interview workshop, hosted by area employers on April 12. The workshops are the student's opportunity to learn from employers how to best prepare to meet with employers. Students will submit resumes to Career Linkages by April 13, to be included in the on-line Employer Resume book. Area employers will have access to preview resumes prior to the event and decide which candidates they would like to interview.

The networking portion of the event, where employers and students informally meet, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25 at Celebrations Downtown. This is the student's opportunity to socialize with employers and have the chance to pick up more interviews for the next day.

The Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce has identified the need to retain top educated professionals in this area and this is a perfect opportunity to find the talent needed.

Last year was the inaugural year for this event and over sixty students participated. "This opportunity was a great experience, I'm grateful I had the opportunity to meet so many knowledgeable professionals. This was extremely beneficial to me as both a student and potential professional," commented one of last year's student attendees.

The deadline has been extended to April 10 for both students and employers to register. So far nine (9) area employers have registered including: Big River Telephone/Big River Broadband, Community Counseling, Enterprise, Manpower, Mid West Neurosurgeons, Northwestern Mutual Financial Services, Pop Weaver Popcorn, State Farm and SoutheastHealth. All majors are invited to participate. Registration for the event is $5. To sign up for the event, come to Career Linkages located in the University Center room 206, for more information on the event call 573-651-2583 or visit our website at www.semo.edu/careerlinkages.
